Group | MCE

[Stockholm; 2017-06-08] Atlas Copco acquires 34% of Mobilaris MCE, the Mining and Civil Engineering branch of Mobilaris Group AB. The acquisition is expected to be completed at the start of the third quarter 2017. Mobilaris MCE will operate as a separate company partly owned by Atlas Copco’s Mining and Rock Excavation Technique business area.

Mobilaris’ technology enables real time 3D tracking, planning and monitoring of vehicles, people and objects – solutions which enable productivity enhancements and increased safety for mining sites as well as other applications.

The deal corresponds with a growing demand for Mining IoT (Internet of Things) solutions, where Mobilaris and Atlas Copco together foresee value from their existing and new clients, respectively.

  – ”The innovative team at Mobilaris will play a key role as Atlas Copco further advances its digital and automation solutions, providing mining and civil engineering customers with increased safety, enhanced operational excellence and improved productivity,” says Helena Hedblom, President of Atlas Copco’s Mining and Rock Excavation Technique business area. “This is the future in mining.”

Developments within so called Industrial Internet of Things enable vast cost savings for mining businesses, since the technology enables real time monitoring of people, products and vehicles in and around a mining site. This in turn enables both efficiency and safety enhancements. Since Mobilaris’ open technology can utilize a mix of positioning and communication technologies, investments can be optimized to every need.

Mikael Nyström, CEO of Mobilaris Group comments:

  – “Mobilaris’ and Atlas Copco’s joint innovative strengths will further speed up the access to new features increasing mining productivity. Mobilaris agnostic system approach will be a key reason for new customers coming to use Mining Intelligence technology. We are certain that such open technology platforms will create ripples across the entire mining industry.”

Mobilaris products and solutions are based on a technology agnostic approach which works with all applications and technologies. This will remain at the heart of Mobilaris strategy and supported by Atlas Copco, allowing our clients to make data driven decisions and to optimize their businesses by connecting a large variety of applications, systems, and technologies.

The purchase price is not material relative to Atlas Copco’s market capitalization and is not disclosed.
